Obituary of James-Vaughn Morris


Funeral services for James Vaughn Morris, 93, of Weaver, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel in Jacksonville with the Revs. Clayton Morris, Phillip Morris, Larry Sexton and Lamar Denkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Morris died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at his home in Weaver, after an extended illness. He is survived by his children, Elaine Morris Heath Gossett (Braxton), Hokes Bluff, Clayton Vaughn Morris (Vickie), Codlea, Romania, Judy H. Sexton (Larry), Trenton, Ga., Betty H. McArthur (Jim), Oxford, and Joyce H. McElroy (Steve), Georgetown, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Jane Howell, Montevallo; a chosen daughter/caregiver, Brenda McArthur, of Anniston; two sisters, Edna M. Garren, Gadsden and Lorene M. Ligon, Weaver; grandchildren, Eric M. Heath (Alice Anne) and their son, Elijah, Hokes Bluff, Alan Vaughn Heath, Jacksonville, Wesley A. Heath (Ashley) Hokes Bluff, Lucretia Bridges (Sandy), Jacksonville, Fla., Laura Eden (Mike), Pearland, Texas, Miriam Junkins (Shane), Jacksonville, Fla., David McArthur (Brenda), Anniston, Debbie McElroy (Jay) Oxford, Sandy Smith, Terlingua, Texas, Michael Smith, San Marcos, Texas, Sonya Carroll (Mike), Moody, and Jason Howell (Julie) Birmingham; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Mr. Morris was a World War II veteran. He served in the Army Air Corps at Laredo Air Field in Laredo, Texas. He retired from Anniston Army Depot in 1980, where he worked as an automotive inspector for over 30 years. He was an active member of West Weaver Baptist Church. Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Helen Wells Morris, who died in 1979. He married Margaret Conaway Howell in 1981, and they were married until her death in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Morris; brothers, Homer, Howard and Ralph Morris; sister, Lovella Ellis; son, Bob Howell; son-in-law, Alex Heath; grandson, Joshua Morris and great-grandson,Alex Paul Heath. The family would like to extend special thanks to caregivers, Brenda McArthur, Patricia Patton and Shelia Woods and to AlaCare Hospice and their compassionate nurses and staff. Also, very special thanks is given to Dr. Michael Hanna, for his excellent care for many years and his intriguing discussions of antique autos and airplanes.
