James Temple Doswell II JACKSONVILLE - James Temple Doswell II, 78, a retired pilot with the U.S. Marine Corps, died Saturday, March 15, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Ann James Doswell. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. EST today at Evergreen Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at St. John's Cathedral in Jacksonville.Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32205 (904-355-5641, ext. 503) is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or a favorite charity. Born in New Orleans on July 1, 1924, he was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Menard Doswell of New Orleans.Col. Doswell, who resided with his wife in the Avondale area of Jacksonville, flew 60 strike missions during World War II and 51 missions in Korea. He was highly decorated for his gallantry in Korea, a recipient of several Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Silver Star, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1968.Col. Doswell, along with his two brothers, Gelon Hahn Doswell and Menard Doswell III, were the only naval aviators in the Marine Corps who, as brothers, served concurrently in the Pacific theater in World War II. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he went to work for Wells Fargo for nearly 20 years. He was on the advisory board of the Salvation Army in Jacksonville for nearly 20 years, member of the Meninak Club of Jacksonville since July 1969, president of the Memorial Park Association from 1989-92, and a member of the Florida Yacht Club.Other survivors include three children, James Temple Doswell III of Jacksonville, Harry James Doswell (and wife Alice Cochran) of Aiken, S.C., and Anna Doswell Easton (and husband Andrew John) of Tallahassee; a daughter-in-law, Anne Nixdorf Doswell of Live Oak; and three grandchildren, Anna Logan Doswell of Aiken, S.C., Philip James Easton and John Temple Easton of Tallahassee.
