TODD James S. Todd, age 83, a resident of Fairfield for more than 50 years, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in Ocala, Fla., of natural causes. He was the son of the late George L. and Marion Ferris Todd, of Fairfield. Following a long family tradition of service to his country, beginning with two ancestors who fought in the American Revolution, Jim served in World War II as a sergeant in the Marine Corps and fought at Guadalcanal and Bougainville. He received several battle ribbons and was awarded an Expert Marksman medal by the Marine Corps. After the war, he attended Georgia Tech and received an Electrical Engineering degree. He was a licensed professional engineer in both Connecticut and Florida and was retired from the Bullard Co., where he worked as supervisor of electrical engineering for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Ruby Anne Smith, originally of Lynchburg, S.C.; one brother, Herbert of Grand Island, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Mastin and her husband, Bruce, of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Margaret Trumbo and her husband, Warren, of San Diego, Calif. He is also survived by his three children, Robert Todd and his wife, Carolyn, of Shelton, Carol Washburn and her husband, Robert, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and James R. Todd and his wife, Susan, of Hawthorn Woods, Ill. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald, on May 18, of this year; and by his sister, Carol, who died in 1944. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made to a charitable organization of your choice.
