MERIDEN - James S. Frederick, 90, beloved husband of Francis Smith Frederick of 64 years, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family at his side. Born on Jan. 16, 1921, the son of the late Arthur and Anna (Stoltman) Frederick, he was raised in Meriden having attended St. Mary School, and was a graduate of Meriden High School.He worked for L. Suzio Companies and retired after 32 years, and spent the remaining 42 years with his family and friends. Mr. Frederick served with the U.S. Army in the Atlantic Theatre of Operations during World War II. He volunteered for parachute infantry training and was assigned to the famous 101st Airborne Division. He jumped behind the enemy lines in the early morning darkness of D-Day in Normandy. He was wounded and later returned to combat to participate in the defense of Bastogne (Battle of the Buldge). He received numerous honors including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. In 1947, he helped form the St. Mary Men's Club and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and his favorite golfer Freddy Couples.Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, James, his daughter, Kathleen Bennett, his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth and son-in-law, Dale Bennett; his grandchildren, Tracy Bennett Barnes, her husband, Jeff, and Kevin and Brian Frederick; his great-grandchildren, Abigail, Matthew and Emily Barnes; as well as many other loving family members. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Elaine Mascagni and Marion Galotti; and a brother, Arthur Frederick.He will always be remembered for his quiet manner and his love for his family. He will be in our hearts forever.Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Wednesday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 5 Sherman Place, Meriden. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E.
