McCAFFREY-James Peter, 69, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Weston, Connecticut, Key Largo, Florida, and Salisbury, Connecticut, died peacefully with his children by his side on Friday, January 30th, at the Sand Lake Hospital in Orlando. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 2, 1934, and raised in Scarsdale, New York, he was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University. He went on to serve two years as a US Navy Gunnery Officer on a Destroyer in the Atlantic Fleet. He spent his entire career in the Specialty Food Business, including President and Chairman of Louis Sherry, Senior Vice President of Norin Corporation, Founder and President of Iroquois Grocery Products, Executive Vice President and the President of Iroquois Brands, where he made the acquisition of Romanoff Caviar from Colgate Palmolive. Subsequently, he ran numerous small companies in the specialty food business. He served on board of the National Association of the Specialty Food Trade for ten years and was the immediate past Chairman. He is survived by his son Kevin McCaffrey of New York, New York, daughter Kelly Chase of Wilton, Connecticut, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Michael McCaffrey, who was killed in a commercial airplane crash in 1985. Funeral services will be held at the Norfield Congregational Church in Weston, Connecticut, on Saturday, February 21st, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Michael J. McCaffrey '83 Scholarship Fund at Amherst College, P.O. Box 5000, Amherst, Ma 01002-5000. Please make checks payable to the ``Trustees of Amherst College.''
