James Paul Smith, 74, Palm Coast, died at home Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005. Mr. Smith was born Sept. 26, 1930, in Trenton, N.J., to Robert E. and Mary D. Smith. He moved to Palm Coast in April 2000 from Ft. Lauderdale. Before moving to Florida, he spent many years in San Diego, Calif., where he worked for over 10 years with Prudential Insurance Company as a sales representative. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Bordentown Military Institute, received an associate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Temple University. James was a four-year Navy veteran. Among his hobbies, he most enjoyed playing his trumpet, traveling, golf and boating. He was a past commander of The Harbour North Yacht Club in Maryland, and was a Mason. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 50 years, Helen; children, Maryellen DeSaro, James Lawrence Smith and Laura Anne and JohnVan Malden; grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle Smith, Kimberly Marie Smith, John Van Malden III, Katie Amanda Smith and Christopher James Van Malden; brother, Robert Erwin Smith Jr.; and sister, Evelyn Miller.
