James was born in White Plains, New York on June 26, 1936 to Michael Coughlin and Kathleen Hanlon Coughlin. He is predeceased by his mother and father. Jim grew up in White Plains and lived most of his young life on Sterling Avenue. He attended Stepinac High School and graduated in 1954 where he excelled in academics as well as athletics. He went to Iona College and NYU on a full scholarship-working his way through to finish his MBA. He worked at JP Morgan Chase, RSSI, Lionel Eddie, Manufacturers Hanover and was ranked one of the top 100 fund managers and achieved a 5 star morning star rating in 1996. James moved to Somers in 1965 where he raised his 3 children, volunteered as a soccer coach, and played tennis at Reis Park for 30 years. He was a faithful parishioner at St. Joseph's Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years Dr. Marcia Geller-Coughlin, his children, and grandchildren. Jim was an adoring husband, loving brother to Michael Coughlin (Patricia), Sheila O'Connor, Kathleen Sullivan and Anne Coughlin. Jim was a devoted father to James Coughlin (Susan), Deborah Cardi (Michael), Michael Coughlin (Jennifer) and stepfather to Jaclyn Geller( Jim), Karen Geller and David Geller. Proud Papa to Tyler Cardi, Christopher Cardi, Connor Cardi, Zachary Coughlin, Meghan Coughlin, Katie Coughlin, Morgan Coughlin and step-grandfather to Jessica, Lucas and Owen. Jim was an avid and skillful tennis and golf player. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Italian American Center of Stamford, on the tennis team and parishioner at St. Leo's and St. Lucy's Catholic Churches. Jim had a quiet presence that was always reassuring and a quick wit that never failed to put a smile on your face. He was a true gentleman who knew what was important in life. He will be greatly missed. Visitation was held Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 4-8 PM at Shippan's Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home (same building as Bosak Funeral Home), 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Rd, Stamford, CT. Burial will follow at Kensico Cemetery.
