Obituary of James P. Flanagan


James P. Flanagan MENDON James P. Flanagan, 85, of Mendon MA and formerly of Milford, MA., died Sunday evening (April 26 , 2009) at the Beaumont Nursing Center in Northbridge after a period of declining health. He was the widower of the late Claire K. (Power) Flanagan who died in 1993. He was born in Williamstown MA, the son of the late James P. and the late Viola (Lee) Flanagan Sr. and resided in Mendon since 2004. He had previously lived in Milford from 1955 to 1985 before moving to Florida for (19) years. Mr. Flanagan attended the Williamstown public schools and graduated from Franklin High School in 1941. He was employed as a corporate manager at Bose Corporation in Framingham MA for (9) years retiring in 1985. He had also been previously employed at the former Compton & Knowles Company and the former Sprague Electric both in Worcester MA as well as the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale, MA for (19) years. Mr. Flanagan was a WW II US Army Air Corps veteran. He was a communicant of St. Michaels Church in Mendon and was past commander of the Roger L. Wood American Legion Post #355 in Mendon, a past member of the New England Guild Puppetry, past president of the 50 Plus Club, and a former communicant of San Juan del Rio Church in Fruit Cove, FLA. He is survived by one daughter, Mary Lee Siple of Mendon, MA.; two sons, Stephen P. Flanagan and his wife, Lucy, of Alpharetta, GA. and Michael K. Flanagan of Worcester, MA.; one brother, Kenneth Blanchard of Wrentham, MA.; eight grandchildren: Scott Flanagan, Kendra Weaver, Lauren Poxon, Regan Siple, Brian Siple, Kerrin Siple, Sarah Flanagan and Sean Flanagan; three great-grandchildren: Brennan Flanagan, Alana Weaver and Dorian Weaver. He was the father-in-law of the late Kenneth Siple who died in 1997. His funeral will be held Thursday (April 30th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, MA (www.edwardsmemorialfuneralhome.com), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Michaels Church, North Avenue, Mendon MA. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Cedar Street (rte 85), Milford MA. Visiting hours will be Wednesday evening from 5pm to 8pm.
