JAMES "VAL" MILLER HAMMOND, IN James Miller, age 87, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011. He was born in Ripley, TN on January 24, 1924 to John and Myrtle (nee Rice) Miller. Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of American Legion Post 369, East Chicago and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Highland, IN. Retired from Inland Steel after more than 30 years of service. "VAL" enjoyed his time at Inland Steel. He will be remembered by all as a friend and helper to everyone he met. "VAL" married Geneva (nee Clem) Miller on May 27, 1944 and she survives. His memory will be cherished by daughters: Brenda Miller and Jane (Larry) Chapman; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Summar. Visitation for "VAL" will be Sunday, February 27, 2011 from 2:00-8:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Calvary Baptist Church, 9516 Kennedy Avenue, Highland, IN with Reverend Don Rector officiating. Friends may also call at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of service on Monday. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. For information call 219-923-7800.
