Pahokee - James Melvin Weeks, 87, died on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Lakeside Medical Center. His loving family was by his side when he passed. James was born in Lake Worth to the late Jacob G. and Venera Weeks. He grew up in Canal Point where he attended Canal Point Elementary School and then Pahokee High School where he graduated. After graduation James enlisted in the Marines from February 1943 until February 1946. While in the Marines he served as an anti-aircraft radar operator at Funafuti in the Ellison Island. In 1948, James married the late Frances Dodson Weeks, they had six children. James was a member of Canal Point Baptist Church, which he loved to attend when he was able. He was self-employed at J.G. Weeks & Son, Inc. for over 45 years. After retirement he delivered Avon for his wife, which made him better known as the Avon man. James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. James was predeceased by his wife, Frances; daughter, Jackie McKinstry; and son, Billy Weeks. He is survived by three daughters, Sandy Maynor (Dennis) of Pahokee, Debbie Sigmon of Port Saint Lucie, Cindy Sullivan (David) of Johnston, S.C.; one son, Jimbo Weeks (Debra) of Canal Point; son-in-law, Billy McKinstry of Loxahatchee; daughter-in-law, Loretta Weeks of Okeechobee, ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Myrtice Calhoun of Louisville, Ky., Christina Wood of Chipley, Yvonne Guerry of Belle Glade, Elaine Wright of St. Augustine; and brothers, Trevette Weeks (Joann) of Orlando, and Jacob Weeks of Okeechobee. Funeral services for James were held July 2, 2012 at Canal Point Baptist Church with Pastors Trevette Weeks, Bill Taylor, and Doug Nickalson presiding. He was laid to rest at Port Mayaca Cemetery.
