LYONS - Mr. James Lewis McKenzie, 73, of 1363 Hwy. 178 Lyons, died Friday morning, April 8, in Community Hospice of Vidalia after a brief illness.James was a native of Toombs County, resided in Chatham County and Liberty County for many years, returning to Lyons in 2005. He was owner and operator of McKenzie Fill Dirt Service and was Baptist by faith.He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. McKenzie, one brother, Wildon McKenzie, and his wife, Gloria Jean McKenzie.James is survived by his fiancé, Judy Honoway of Midway, and her four children and eleven grandchildren; two sons, James Richard McKenzie of Baxley and Jerald Lee McKenzie of Douglas, three daughters, Carol Doris Williams and James' favorite son-in-law Ricky of Baxley, Cynthia Lee Gay of Old Fort, N.C. and Margaret Lee Ann McKenzie of Garden City; one brother, Howard Eugene McKenzie and his wife Renee of Springfield; sister, Doris L. Higgs and her husband Herbert of Lyons; five grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.Funeral services for Mr. James Lewis McKenzie will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, April 10, at Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia, with the Rev. Ron Ross officiating.Committal and interment will follow at 5 p.m. in the Gravel Hill Cemetery of Bloomingdale.The family will assemble at the residence of his sister Doris L. Higgs and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday.Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service of Vidalia is in charge of arrangements.
