James-Lee Smith, born in 1932, spouse of James-Lee Smith, son of Leatha and Shelby-Russell, father of Lesley, Lori, Dana and Jamea, died on August 8, 2007 at 15 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Less than six months after losing his wife of 56 years, James Lee Smith died on August 8, 2007, in St. John's Hospital. He was born January 7, 1932, in Springfield, Mo., to Leatha Maxine (Agee) and Shelby Russell Smith. They preceded him in death, along with his brother, Bill Smith; sister, Carol Thompson and wife, Martha Sue (Parham) Smith. Jim worked 15 years for his brother, Bill, at Architectural Materials. Throughout his life he was also an ordained Southern Baptist minister and served as pastor at Antioch Baptist Church in Seymour, Liberty Baptist Church in Springfield, First Baptist Church in Clever, and First Baptist Church in Hollister. He loved driving fast cars, riding horses, writing music, showing off his beautiful wife, and correcting his four children, Jamea Crum, Dana Smith, Lori Feyh and Lesley Hook; his six grandchildren, Elizabeth Crum, Jameson Crum, Emily Budd, Henry Feyh, Sarah and Aidan Hook; his three great-grandchildren, Asher, Israel and Lily Budd; and numerous dogs. Jim fought Type I Diabetes most of his life. He endured a lifetime of hospital stays, constant pain and partial blindness. He endured through his faith, never-ending care from his extended family, his fear of absolutely nothing and just plain meanness. He leaves us his attitude, conveyed through words he spoke even in his final days to nurses bearing more needles, more medicine, more pain: Bring It On. He is survived by his family and friends who will share in a graveside service on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, Mo., under the direction of Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Midtown. His remains were cremated, per Jim's request, and his eyes were donated for diabetes research. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Jim's name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org or 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor, New York, New York 10005.
