James Joseph Horton, 92, of Vero Beach, died Aug. 31, 2007, at Indian River Medical Center. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had been a seasonal resident of Vero Beach for 10 years, prior to coming here three years ago from Bayside, N.Y., and Islamorada. He was a captain in the New York City Fire Department, retiring after 25 years of service. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Anne Horton; and sister, Lillian Bowden of New York City. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
