James "Jim" J. Cotter, 87, of Franklin, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was the beloved husband of Anna M. (Brennan) Cotter who recently passed away in March of this year. Born in Lynn on August 28, 1926, he was the son of the late James and Madeline (Foley) Cotter. Jim was raised in Lynn and had lived in Dedham, Medfield and Bellingham prior to moving to Franklin in 2012. He Mr. Cotter proudly served in the Army Air Force during the World War II. In addition, Jim received an "I Fighter Command" Certificate of Honorable Service as a volunteer member of the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Services Reserve. Jim graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked at MITRE Corporation in Bedford for several years until his retirement. Jim was an enthusiastic amateur photographer. He was also fond of listening to a variety of music, particularly classical music. During his retirement years Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with family and friends. Jim is survived by his children, Jim Cotter and his wife Diane of Franklin, Rich Cotter and his wife Nancy of Foxboro, JoAnn Robinson and her husband Milo of Charlottesville, Virginia, and David Cotter and his wife Lori of Millville. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister Marilyn Paget of Jamaica Plain and a brother Paul Cotter of Arizona. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Wednesday, June 25 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Franklin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 190 Lynnfield St., Lynn, MA. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 24 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
