James-Frederick Lucas, born in 1924, spouse of Alice Marie Hassan, son of William and Marie, father of Brian and Larry, died on April 15, 2002 at 78 years old. Please consult the obituary here:

(2 Timothy 4-7).It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of James on Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, age 78, of Parkinson's Disease and Cancer. Beloved husband of 52 years of Alice Marie (nee Hassan). Dear father and father-in-law of Gail and Larry Newman of Fort McMurray, Alberta and Brian Lucas of Etobicoke, Ontario. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Natasha and Brendan Newman. Sadly missed by his sisters Sarah McQuade and her husband Lorne, Geraldine Kelly and Peggy Di'Carlo and her husband Angelo. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and friends throughout Canada. Predeceased by his cherished parents, William and Marie Lucas of Chipman, N.B. James was a devoted family man and had unending love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was born in Chipman, N.B. on February 20, 1924. On February 24, 1944 he joined the Armed Forces, first serving in the Army and then in the Air Force. His military career took him to many bases including CFB Rockcliffe, 2 Wing (France), 4 Wing (Germany) and CFB Chatham, N.B. He retired from the Forces on February 20, 1974 and settled in Ottawa. His "second career" also involved the military, as he worked for the Department of National Defence in the Cataloguing Department, before taking his second retirement in September, 1985. James' interests and hobbies included sports, gardening and reading. Family and friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at Aviation Parkway on Wednesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 400 St. Laurent Blvd., on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 11 a.m. A Reception will follow at the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Donations may be made in James' memory to the Parkinson's Society of Canada. The family wishes to thank staff and nurses at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre for their kind care and support.
