Flanagan, James M.James Michael Flanagan, age 82, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 7th, after farewell visits from three generations of firefighters from the Fairfield Fire Department. Born in Bridgeport on January 8, 1932, he was the youngest child of Irish immigrants, the late Mary A. (Conroy) and Michael J. Flanagan. He was a resident of Fairfield for the past sixty years. Jimmy was a Life Member of the Stratfield Volunteer Fire Department and an Honorary Member of the Board of Directors. A featured article in the Fairfield Citizen-News designated him as the "Goodwill Ambassador" of the Fairfield Fire Department, and he proudly marched with the members of the Fire Department at Memorial Day parades for many years. He was a daily communicant at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Fairfield. He was known for attending local Irish music seisiuins in Bridgeport and Milford, joining in with his spoons at many cultural gatherings. More recently, he enjoyed his time with the caring staff at Grasmere by the Sea Adult Day Care Center. He was known throughout the neighborhood as an avid walker, and he loved to spend his summers at beach houses with his sisters Agnes and Peggy, who cared for him for his entire life. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Margaret M. (Peggy) Flanagan, Atty. Bernard J. Flanagan, John M. Flanagan, USAF, Irene F. Reynolds, T. Dorothy Money, and Agnes C. Flanagan, nephews Patrick J. Flanagan, John Paul Flanagan, niece Patricia Ford Money, and a grand-niece, Lauren Agnes Leonard.He is survived by his sister Marie F. Halstead of Bridgeport and brother-in-law Ralph J. Money Jr. of Bridgeport.He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews: Joan Marie Halstead, Mary Ellen Halstead, Robert E. Halstead, Jr. and Joan Carty, John M. Halstead and Deborah Jankura, Mark and Sharon Halstead, Elizabeth and James Keefe, Mary Diana Flanagan and Thomas Harris, Carol and Roger Salthouse, Michael J. Flanagan, Sheila Flanagan, Lisa and Jaime Garcia, Brian and Tara Flanagan, Mary Money and Matthew Leonard, Ralph Money and Laura Babala, Michael F. Money, James and Ivana Money, Catherine E. Money, Ann Money Atkins, and Teresa and Dennis McLaughlin. He also leaves behind his cherished grandnieces and grandnephews: Conor, Catherine, Garrett, Jeremy, Amy, Emily, Bridget, Samuel, and Maggie Halstead, Kevin Grant, Patrick, Robert and Bryan Keefe, Marianne Flanagan Gray, Rebecca, Daniel, Michael and Michele Flanagan, Colleen Johnson, Laura Roberts, Ted Salthouse, Ian, Elyse, Patrick, and James Garcia, Tanner Flanagan, Matthew and Liza Leonard, Noah, Francesca, Michael, William, Rose, and James Joseph Money, Jr., Jack, Tess, and Owen Atkins, and Haleigh, Brenna, and Katie Mc Laughlin. He also leaves several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. The family wishes to express heartfelt thank to his caregivers, Dennis, Grace, Liz, and Joy, who made his final years comfortable and peaceful. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, celebrated by Jimmy's cousin, Monsignor Michael T. Flanagan and Father Peter Cipriani. Interment in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, November 11, from 4:00 -8:00 at Larson Funeral Home.
