James Eugene Donahue, 75, of Vernon, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.Born Nov. 17, 1938, in Scottsburg, he was the son of Charles Walter and Beatrice Ely Donahue. He married Aase Anderson, who survives, on Aug. 8, 1959, in Ramstein, Germany.James worked as a technician weather forecaster for the National Weather Service for 25 years. He served as a weather forecaster for the U. S. Air Force for 20 years and received the Bronze Star for merit during his tour in Vietnam in 1970-71. He retired as a master sergeant in 1976. He was a member of Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon and Danish Brotherhood Lodge 1 in Omaha, Nebraska. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.Survivors include his wife, Aase Donahue of Vernon; two sons, James Donahue of Vernon, and Robert Donahue of Terre Haute; a brother, Charles (Shirley) Donahue of Columbus; and a sister, Dorothy (Wayne) Springmeyer of Greensburg.He was preceded in death by his parents.A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Vernon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
