James "Jim" Edward Orr, 82, Gadsden, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Cremation services provided by Collier-Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Services.He was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Arkadelphia, Ark., the son of the late J. Austin and Doris Killingsworth Orr. He graduated from Arkadelphia High School in 1947. He attended the University of Corpus Christi where he met the love of his life for the past 61 years, Virginia Caveness. They returned to Arkadelphia, Ark., where they graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1952. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant through Army ROTC, he served as a platoon leader and company commander in the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. Returning to Arkadelphia, he spent two years with Elk Horn Bank, then began his long tenure with Ouachita Baptist University. He started as assistant business manager and eventually became vice president for finance. During his time, he served two five-year terms on the Arkadelphia School Board as secretary and president. He was an active cattle farmer for many years in Clark County. In 1975, he left OBU and began working for Baptist Memorial Geriatric Center in San Angelo, Texas. In 1985, at age 56, he retired and lived out his dream in Angel Fire, N.M. He worked seven years as a ski instructor in the winter and managed the trout fishing lake in the summer for Angel Fire Resort. While in New Mexico he was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, skier and hiker. He was a longtime member of Angel Fire Unity Church. He spent six years at Harbor Place in Corpus Christi, Texas, and recently moved to Regency Pointe in Gadsden, where he thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful fellowship and good friends he made during his short stay there.Survivors include his wife, Virginia Caveness Orr; one daughter, Rozeanne Yancy (Don), Pflugerville, Texas; two sons, Dr. Frank E. Orr (Susie), Gadsden, and Blake A. Orr (Ruth), Marquette, Kan.; six grandchildren, Rebekah Brunton (Jason), Pflugerville, Texas, Dr. Brian Orr, Tampa, Fla., Scott Orr (Natalie), Birmingham, Austin Orr, Corpus Christi, Texas, Katie and Lisa Orr, Marquette, Kan.; and two great-grandchildren, Carrington Orr and Jake Brunton.A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, Ark.
