James E. Casey, 79 YARMOUTH -- James Eugene Casey died on Friday, Aug. 3, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 12, 1928, in New York City, the son of William and Katherine (Wollens) Casey. Jim loved his books, politics, and the New York Yankees, but his greatest love was his family. In high school he thought he heard a calling to be a priest and attended and graduated from Maryknoll Preparatory School in Clarks Summit, Pa. Though he ultimately decided the religious life was not for him, he always held the Seminary and the Maryknoll brothers who ran it in the highest regard. After high school, he graduated from Fordham University, N.Y., and attended graduate school at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Jim started his career by joining his father and brothers as an executive at Casey & Sons, a heavy construction firm in New York City, which dug some of the subway and other tunnels in and around NYC. He also worked for George A. Fuller, which built sky scrapers in Manhattan, and Port Morris Tile and Terrazzo. Mr. Casey is survived by his wife, Helen, of Bridgeport, Conn. He is also survived by his daughter Meghan and her husband Chuck Parker of Yarmouth; his son Michael and his wife Heather Day of North Yarmouth; and four grandchildren who were the light of his later years: Fallon, Bridget (Bridie) and Anna Parker, all of Yarmouth and Luis Alberto James Casey of Guatemala City, Guatemala and soon to be of North Yarmouth. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, to whom he was very close, Lillian and George Bantz of South Salem, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews, including locally, Bill Bantz of Portland and Robin Casey and her husband Lou Kimball of Harpswell and Austin, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Maureen Fallon Casey; his brothers William and Joseph; and his sister, Mary Romaine. Visiting hours will be on Monday, Aug. 6 from 6-8 p.m., at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, Main Street, Yarmouth. Burial will be on Friday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. ,at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan, Conn. The Casey Family has created a memorial of Jim's life and it is available at www.mem.com.
