Carter, James E. NORTH GREENBUSH James E. Carter, 85, of Northern Court, died Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush after a brief illness. Born in New Albany, Ind., he was the son of the late Charles Carter and Margaret (Powers) Carter, and husband of the late Kathleen Agnes Cahill Carter. He was raised in Watervliet, resided in the Troy area for most of his life and was a 1941 graduate of LaSalle Institute. Mr. Carter was a pipe fitter for Local #7 Plumbers and Steamfitters for many years, retiring 21 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill. A decorated war veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he was awarded two Purple Hearts with Oak Leaf Cluster, two Bronze Stars, the Victory Medal and five campaign medals. He was also a past president of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 7, a past president of the Tibbits Cadets, a 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus Council 267 and a member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500 and the Order of the Purple Heart. He is survived by four sons, James E. (Lillian) Carter Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., William (Barbara) Carter of Irvine, Calif., Donald (Sandra) Carter of Poestenkill and Timothy (Evelyn) Carter of Brunswick; two daughters, Erin (Brian Moss) Hamlin of Wynantskill and Mary Elise Carter of Wynantskill; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Gingeriski. Funeral service will be held Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Brookside Avenue, Wynantskill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Salvatore Rodino. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Entombment, St. Agnes Cemetery Mausoleum in Menands.
