ANDERSON, James Douglas December 13, 1941 January 13, 2012 My darling Jim lived a long and dignified life and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. He died in hospital from the effects of a stroke and the advanced weakness of myotonic muscular dystrophy. He was determined to live life to the fullest, despite MMD. As a testament to Jim's spirit, here's a short story of his life, told by me, Bonnie, his wife of 28 years. He was known for his high level of intelligence, and dry wit, distinguishing himself over thirty years as a captain in the CAF, Air Force, as Sea King navigator and instructor. What a handsome officer. Later, he excelled as a computer programmer civil servant and electronics and math instructor at Algonquin College. He loved music, participating in bands and choirs. Favourites were pop, jazz, and big band. A finer dancing partner you could not find. And writer producing newsletters for the Forces and FSNA National Association of Federal Retirees. Sports enjoyed squash, golf, and cycling. Cycled to work and participated in the MS 150 km bike tours, both in Ottawa and Victoria. Extremely proud to be part of Langford's Emergency Support Services. And blessed to be among the family of Church of the Advent. Many thanks to the medical team on the neurosciences ward of the VG for the excellent care you provided. Jim's many dear friends and loving family members too numerous to mention will fondly remember him and can rest assured of his pride in being part of your lives. Of special note are Jim's two children, from his marriage to Margaret, whom he loved so much Melinda who predeceased him due to complications of MMD and Murray who carries on with the mutual pride and respect of father and son. And never to be forgotten, Jim's love and pride of his step children, grandchildren, and great grandson. A service to celebrate his life will take place at Church of the Advent, 510 Mount View Ave (250-474-3031), on Thursday, January 26 at 2:00 pm.
