James Davis, born in 1946, spouse of Debradavis Davis, father of Chris, Briannasanchez, Angela and Jamie, died on October 9, 2011. Please consult the obituary here:
DAVIS, James "Big Jim" 65, of Floral City, FL passed away at home on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, surrounded byhis family. Born in Morgantown, WV on Sept. 25, 1946, he moved to Florida at an early age. His father, Edward Davis, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife DebraDavis; their children, Jamie Mell, Angela Davis, BriannaSanchez (Michael) and Chris Conrad (Michelle); and 15 grandchildren. An integral part of Progress Energy for 30 years as a Senior Work Specialist, he was widely described as an engineering and mechanical master by all who knew him, both in work and in life. He was an auto enthusiast, claiming awards in his earlier years for astounding feats in custom mechanical creations and speed. He later devoted his heart to his "second family", as an avid motorcycle enthusiast and true brother to all who ride. He co-founded Long Riders motorcycle group along with brothers-in-heart David "Dragonfly"Gillespie, and Joe "Flash" Merkt,as well as volunteering his time with numerous local, state and national rides and events and never hesitating to lend his vast knowledge to anyone in need. His garage and his heart were open to all and his soul found peace in the wind and joy of the open road. Though he will be missed by so many, we find our own peace in knowing his spirit rides above, free of pain and speed limits. Ride well, Big Jim. Memorial services will be held 2 pm, Oct. 30, 2011 at 10484 Gypsy Ave, Weeki Wachee, with his "final ride" to follow in Nov. We encourage those who have a story to come and share in this celebration of life and welcome the glorious thunder of salute to a fellow brother by any and all who are able to ride by. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/bigjim/KeeptheMemoryAlive or HPH Hospice, http://www.hospicejourney.org/visit/James-e-big-Jim-Davis, who so courageously stood by his side.
