HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- James David Casey, 88, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, surrounded by his family. He resided on Factory Hill Road in North Hoosick with his wife, Mary (Brahan) Casey.He was born May 19, 1915 in Hoosick Falls, the son of David and Mary Bridget (Shields) Casey. Jim graduated from the Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls and served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked at General Electric in Malta, N.Y., as a tool-and-die maker, and while there he made parts for the Vanguard rocket, America’s first satellite mission. He retired from GE in 1975, and later worked for the Wright-Malta Corp.Jim’s community involvement was a model for other citizens and his family. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 178, Derby Club, V.F.W. Post No. 8417, Knights of Columbus, North Hoosick Fire Department, and was a charter member of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad. An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and trapping. He was an expert marksman and fly fisherman, skills that he generously passed along to others.In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Wilkie, of Hoosick Falls; three sons, J. Dennis Casey and his wife, Margaret, of Hoosick Falls, David Casey and his wife, Doris, of Copper Canyon, Texas, and Sean Casey of Hoosick Falls; three step-daughters, Theresa Lassor of Hoosick Falls, Maureen Wilt of Bennington, Vt., and Jo Ann Brahan of White Creek; a step-son, Ronald Brahan and his wife, Debra, of North Hoosick. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Catherine Alice Bates, and his aunt, Bessie Shields.Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls, and 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Hoosick Falls Health Center.
