CASEY, James Ignatius1931 - 2012James Ignatius Casey, died at age 80 in Ladner, BC. Born in Glace Bay, N.S., the son of Thomas J. Casey and Hannah (MacIntyre). He was educated in schools in Glace Bay and Halifax, and graduated from St. Mary's U. where he played varsity hockey and football. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1956 for the Archdiocese of Halifax. He served in parishes in Halifax, Dartmouth, Sheet Harbour and Springhill, the latter during the mining disasters of 1956 and 1958, and again while Chaplain of the Federal minimum security Institution there. After withdrawing from the priesthood, he married Agnes Hague of Edmonton (formerly Sister Agnes Cecilia S.C.H.). He retired from the Correctional Service of Canada after working as a parole officer and prison counselor/administrator for several years. He is survived by Agnes, sons Shawn of Asia and Bill of Ladner, as well as his sister Joan Casey. James was predeceased by siblings Tom Casey, Pat Casey, Renee Clancy, Jessie Casey, Mary Casey and Sara Walsh; also by Michael Casey in infancy. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Delta Funeral Home, 5329 Ladner Trunk Road, Ladner, BC from 7-9:00 pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 3900 Arthur Drive, Ladner, BC.
