Obituary of James Ballard

Watkinsville - James "Marty" Ballard, 48, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Athens Regional Medical Centers. Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was the son of Charles Samuel Ballard and Margie Robinson Ballard. He was an Offensive Lineman for the University of Georgia, 1980 National Championship Football Team. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and had recently began working for Power House Custom Homes. Survivors include his wife: Cathy Hagood Ballard; children: Liz Ballard, of Watkinsville, Samuel Ballard, of Watkinsville; step-sons: Tracey Hagood, Eric Hagood and Justin Hagood, all of Watkinsville: sister; Karen Ballard, of Akron, OH; brothers: Steve and Tim Ballard, of South Carolina. Funeral services will be held 3PM Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with Revs. Vince Mercardante and Ed Strickland officiating. Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 8PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oconee Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jack Morris, Tim Crowe, Bob Kelly, Danny Rogers, Doug Carrick and Chris Kersch. Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Kasay, Lake Anderson, Duncan Kreps and the 1980 Championship Team. Memorials may be made to the charity of oneís choice. Lord & Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
