James Wesley Ballard, 70, of Prosperity and Pelzer, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2008, following a brief illness. Born in Anderson, S.C., Jim was the only child of the late James Wesley "Wes" and Mildred Wall Ballard. Jim attended Clemson University and Presbyterian College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration '62. A member of the football team and PI Kappa Phi Fraternity, Jimmy served as president '61 and was fondly known as "the Boppa." A long-time member of IPTAY, Jim enjoyed driving his motor home and taking Doris Ann, Bark and later Roscoe to Lot #4 to meet up with longtime friends Charles and Virginia Dean of Bluffton and Maxine and the late Frank Moore of Lexington. These were the good times, with friends, children, and grandchildren always present, stories were told and retold and the adventures were neverending. These loving memories will always be treasured.Jim enjoyed a long career (33 years) with the SC Employment Security Commission. He managed employment offices in Chester, Rock Hill and Greenville and was Director of E & T Technical Services, Columbia, when he retired in 1999. He was a life member of the Union Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 1321. He was a member of White Plains Masonic Lodge No. 321 and a member of Chapin Baptist Church.Surviving are his wife, Doris Ann Lynn Ballard of Prosperity; son, Kevin Bone of West Columbia; daughters, Mili, Julie and Francie Ballard of Rock Hill, and Kristi Bone of West Columbia; granddaughter Kaetlynn (Katie) Duckett; grandsons, Conrad (Buddy) Holbert III, Andrew (Drew) Daniels, and Wesley Ballard.The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. Graveside services will follow at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery in Williamston.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
