Decatur<!--Decatur-->Funeral for James B. "Jim" Todd, 85, of Decatur will be Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Stonbraker and the Rev. Bobby Green officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., immediately prior to the service. Burial will be Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lineville with the Rev. Sherry Harris officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Mr. Todd passed from this life on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at his home in Southwest Decatur, surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 5, 1923, in Clay County to T.W. and Ola May Todd and was raised in the Oak Grove community. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Decatur, and active in the Fellowship Sunday school class. He was a World War II veteran, graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University), was retired from the poultry industry and was an avid gardener, fisherman and outdoor chef. "Howdy Neighbor" was a familiar greeting, as he never met a stranger. He was preceded in life by his parents; four brothers, Duval, Ray, Bill and Robert; brother-in-law, Lynn Short; and son-in-law, Doug Smith. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Todd; two daughters, Kay Smith and Fay Segars of Gardendale; son, Jim Todd, and his wife, Lisa, of Mobile; sister, Maudine Short of Oak Grove; three sisters-in-law, Mattieleen Todd of Jacksonville, Cleo Todd of Oak Grove and Annette Todd of Hoover; two grandsons, Todd Segars and his wife, Suzanne, of Kimberly and Matt Todd of Mobile; stepgrandson, Rich Smith, and his wife, Amanda, of Atlanta, Ga.; three granddaughters, Angie Segars Anderegg and her husband, Matt, of Birmingham, Mandy Smith of Atlanta, Ga., and Kari Todd of Mobile; great-granddaughter, Grace Segars of Kimberly; stepgreat-grandson, Asher Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; and 27 nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Pallbearers will be Matt Anderegg, Brennan Bell, Todd Segars, Randall Smith, Jeff Todd and Matt Todd. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Allen, Tom Calvin, Martin Flemmings, John Glass, Greg Hughes and Jim Peck. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Valley.
