ObituaryJack Harwell Smith, 75, a resident of Cape Coral since 1984, formerly of Jacksonville, FL, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 13, 2002. Jack was born May 21, 1927 in Friendship, Tennessee to the late Russell and Merle (Harwell) Smith. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII. Jack was a truck driver for many years traveling the country but then owned and operated his own successful truck brokerage company. During his earlier days, as a pastime, Jack enjoyed participating in rodeos and showing quarter horses. He was a member of Triangle Masonic Lodge #643 and the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, both of Sioux City, Iowa; and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of South Bend, Indiana. Jack is survived by his wife; Sharon (Ambrose) Smith, Cape Coral; eight children; Kathleen (Steven) Matney, Cape Coral, FL; Jacqueline (Clint) Smith, Kinderhook, MI; Cynthia (Kim) Loose, Harvest, AL; Michael (Linda) Smith, Coldwater, MI: Dina (Craig) Brown, Naples, FL; Lisa (Rusty) Hendrix, Baldwin, MS; Carrie Fowler, Columbus, MS; Tyra Smith, Portland, OR; three step-children, John Dorn, Artesian, SD; Lance Cpl. David Soldano, San Diego, CAMarcella Soldano, Cape Coral, FL; thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 TODAY at the Cape Coral Memorial Funeral Home, 3740 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral where a service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday with his Masonic Brothers of Cape Coral Lodge #367 officiating. Additional services and interment will be in Dyersburg, Tennessee. If desired memorial contributions in loving memory of Jack may be directed to the Shriner's Hospital Burn Unit.
