Obituary of June Carter


AMHERST, N.H. -- June (Young) Carter, 75, of Veterans Road, Amherst, died in Inverness, Fla., on April 25, 2004.Born in Amherst on June 3, 1928, to John A. and Maysie (Horton) Young, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to family and friends.A graduate of Amherst schools with a strong interest in local history, she was a member of the Amherst Historical Society. A golf enthusiast for 40 years, she competed in New Hampshire Women's Golf Association tournaments well into her later years, and supported the formation of the junior golf program at Amherst Country Club. She spent winters in Hernando, Fla., for the last 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Harry Carter Jr.; two sons, William Y. Carter of Epping, and Harry B. “Nick” Carter III of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a daughter, Terry A. Carter, and a much beloved granddaughter, Raina Leah Carter, both of Brattleboro, Vt.; a sister, Florence Johnson of Manchester; and a brother, Maurice E. Young and his wife Virginia of Amherst; and many nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by two sons, Richard and James; two brothers, John and Donald Young; and a sister, Edith Hodge. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in New Hampshire at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SHARE Program, P.O. Box 27, Milford, NH 03055 or to the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire, 109 N. State St., Concord, NH 03301.
