Obituary of Jr. Kent

KENT, JR., CLARENCE NORMAN, 85, on Saturday, February 9, Clarence Norman Kent Jr. passed peacefully with family by his side. He is preceded in death by his father, C. Norman Kent Sr., mother Margarite Isabelle Py Kent; sister Claire Kent Caldwell; brothers-in-law Jack Caldwell of Minneapolis, MN and Paul Schuenemann of Ohio. Mr. Kent is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Glenna Phelps Rankin Kent; sons Clarence Norman Kent III (Ginny) of Port Orange, FL and Kevin Charles Kent (Brent) of Apopka, FL; granddaughters Kaitlyn Kent and Kristyn Kent of Port Orange; sister Nancy Kent Schuenemann, Ohio, as well as extended family members, many friends of the family, and friends. Mr. Kent grew up in Lorain, OH where he shared his father's interest in running various businesses from gas stations to home building. After serving in the United States Marines, he joined his parents in moving to Florida in the 1950s where Norman Sr. had started a successful construction company in Winter Park. During this time he also attended Rollins College earning a Masters in Education. Upon completion of his education, Mr. Kent embarked on an rewarding career in education starting as a Teacher then as Principal. He loved teaching and shared the true gift of education and learning with thousands during his 37 years in education. He touched many lives throughout the Central Florida community with his love of education and leadership, first at Glenridge Junior High and Durrance Elementary, before moving on to Edgewater High, Colonial High and Wymore Tech where he was instrumental in gaining first-time accreditation for the school while serving as principal. In addition to his responsibilities as an educator, Mr. Kent was a guiding director of the "then" fledgling, Central Florida Educators Federal Credit Union. Mr. Kent first served as a key board member and later as board chairman for several years. He also served as President of the Florida High School Activities Association and was a member of many state wide and local commissions throughout his life, truly a gentleman and a scholar. Mr. Kent's favorite past times, aside from his family, was collecting, refurbishing and driving over 100 classic cars in his life time, playing tennis and a passion for travel. With his wife in tow, he explored many continents and exotic locations including Europe and Russia. But perhaps his favorite destination was his many Octobers and holidays spent in Highlands, North Carolina where he - and now his family - maintain a second home to this day. Mr. Kent always put family first. We are blessed to have known him as a Son, Brother, Husband, Uncle and Father and Grandfather. The gift of his life was true blessing for all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in C. Norman Kent's name be made to the Hospice of the Comforter - Robison Residence.
