John W. ("Bill") Snowden, III of Peekskill died September 11, 2001. He was 75. He worked as an engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie, E. Fishkill & Owego, NY. He was with the company for 35 years before retiring in 1986. Mr. Snowden was born December 17, 1925 in Peekskill to John W. Snowden, Jr. and Irene Ruxton Snowden. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of SOG2. On July 24, 1950 he married Althea Galati at the Presbyterian Church in Peekskill. He was a council commissioner for the Dutchess County Council, Boy Scouts of America; Woodbadge staff member; recipient of the Silver Beaver award; life member of the VFW and American Legion in South Carolina Mr. Snowden is survived by his wife Althea Snowden of Peekskill; two sons, John Snowden (and daughter-in-law Carrie) of Peekskill and Robert Snowden (and daughter-in-law Donna) of Beacon; a daughter Lynn Dorney (and son-in-law John) of Fayetteville, GA; eight grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Calling hours are Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home. The funeral is 10 am Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
