Obituary of John-Robert Wynne

WYNNE, JOHN ROBERT "BOB" Bob Wynne, age 79, of Ft. Worth, TX, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011. Bob was born September 27, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended TCU for two years before joining the Air Force on December 7, 1950. He was assigned to the Strategic Air Command and the first B-47 jet bomber squadron stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. After his discharge from the Air Force, Bob moved back to Texas and graduated in August 1957 with a geology degree from the University of Texas. His first job was with the Humble Oil and Refining Co., now Exxon-Mobil. He did field mapping in many counties in south Texas and was the well site geologist for many of the wells drilled by Humble on the King Ranch in the early to mid 1960's. In 1968, Bob left Exxon and became an independent oil and gas producer. Independent is a word that fit Bob not only in his career, but in his personal life as well. He was his own man, pragmatic and not afraid to be bold and follow his own convictions. He always attributed his successes to his education at UT, his excellent training with Humble and not least, the patience and support of his first wife, Sandy. He will be remembered for his love for his family and his sense of humor. Bob was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologist and was elected President of the Southwest Section. He was also a board member and Vice President of the department of Professional Affairs for the AAPG. He was a member of both the Corpus Christi and Fort Worth Geological Societies. He was also a past chairman of the Republican Party of Kleberg County, TX. He was a past president at the Fort Worth Petroleum Club and board member at Shady Oaks Country Club. Bob is survived by his son, Mitchell Stephens Wynne and his wife, Kimbell; grandchildren, John Robert Wynne II and his wife, Whitney, Lisa Katherine Wynne, and David Mitchell Wynne; sister, Sue Wynne Anderson and her husband, Tom; niece, Susan Swofford and her three children; nephew, Scott Anderson and wife, Melissa; longtime employee and loyal friend, Dee Dee Baker. There will be a visitation with family from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Salvation Army, 229 E. Felix St, Fort Worth, TX, 76115 or the Kimbell Art Museum 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, TX, 76107. Greenwood Funeral Home 3100 White Settlement Rd Ft.
