John G. Donovan, of Tappan died October 4, 2006 at his home of complications from Parkinson's Disease. He was 78. Born Sept. 19, 1928, in New York, New York, Mr. Donovan served in the U.S. Army after graduation from Iona College. He had a long career in the field of commercial insurance, working for the Continental Insurance Co., Commercial Union, Fred S. James and Marsh & McLennan Co. Mr. Donovan developed policies for construction of the PATH Rapid Transit System and the Statue of Liberty refurbishing. Mr. Donovan also was active in the Republican Club of South Orangetown. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, of Tappan; a daughter, Jeanne Marie Donovan of Tappan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Maryann Donovan of Fairfield, Conn., and John Donovan and Alison Washco of Miami Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kathryn and John Donovan of Fairfield, and Caitlin Donovan of Miami Beach; a sister, Helen Kelly of Flushing, N.Y.,and a brother, Donald Donovan of Arizona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at the Moritz Funeral Home, 98 Route 303, Tappan.
