Carter, John Willie.John Willie Carter – age 85, of Bridgeport, CT went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Mr. Carter was born on September 29, 1929 on the family farm in Burke County, Georgia to the late Ophelia Carter and Mack Carter. He is survived by his loving daughter, Alva Carter-Hasan; son-in-law Amin Hasan; and grandson, Ishmael Amin Hasan, all of Stamford, CT. Mr. Carter is a veteran of the Korean War and was extremely proud of the service that he provided to his country which was often demonstrated by him wearing one of his many Korean War Veteran hats and his participation in the Flag Day and Memorial Day Cemetery Flag Placement ceremonies in Bridgeport, CT. He was also an active member of the Bridgeport Veteran's Affairs organization where he spearheaded the "Walking Club" with daily walks through Washington Park. After serving in the war, Mr. Carter honed his skills as an expert electrician, plumber and heating/cooling equipment technician and worked in these professions for the majority of his life. Mr. Carter also obtained a diploma in Investigation Training issued by the Universal Detectives Extension Training Division (of Hollywood California) in 1971 and also received his Certificate of Membership to the Universal Detective Association in 1977. Mr. Carter was also a skilled gardener and over this past summer he had an extensive vegetable garden and grew sunflowers that stood over six feet tall in Bridgeport, CT. Mr. Carter is also survived by a sister Narvia Mae Carter (of Augusta, Georgia); brothers Mack Carter Jr., (of Waynesboro, Georgia); and Alvin Carter (of Miami, Florida). He was predeceased by a sister Junie Mae Carter. Mr. Carter has thirteen nieces and eight nephews. The family would like to thank all of the physicians at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Haven, CT for servicing Mr. Carter's medical needs through out the years and we would also like to thank the Stamford Hospital cardiology unit's attending physicians and extremely attentive and compassionate nursing staff and the Masonicare Hospice staff for their support. A special memorial celebration will be held for Mr. Carter at the Bridgeport Veterans Affairs office located at 752 East Main Street, in Bridgeport, CT on December 19, 2014, from 11am – 12:30pm.
