Obituary of John Carter


John Francis Carter, 88, of 9 Pear St., Greenville, S.C., husband of the late Ruth Wallace Carter, died Friday, July 18, 2008, in the Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.Mr. Carter was born in Union County on January 17, 1920, a son of the late John Emerson and Rosanna McKanie Carter. He joined Maple Ridge Baptist Church at an early age and later attended Mountain Baptist Church in Greenville. He was a longtime employee of Daniel Construction Company as a brick mason.Survivors include a stepdaughter, Maxine A. (Bernard) Guinyard of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren, Bernard Calvin (Regina) Guinyard of West Columbia and Albert Guinyard of Columbia; one great-grandchild, Bernard Calvin Guinyard Jr. of West Columbia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Carter was predeceased by a brother, Garnell Carter; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Ruth Carter Powell, Mrs. Drucilla Carter Jackson, Mrs. Nunnie Lee Carter Porter Glenn and Mrs. Ailien Carter Patrick.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Maple Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Johnson presiding and the Rev. James Farr conducting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.The family are at their respective homes.The Carolina Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.
