Obituary of Jennifer-Ann-Dodge Johnson

Jennifer Ann Dodge Johnson died peacefully at home in Yorktown Heights, New York, on March 10, 2006. She was 56. The cause was breast cancer. Born in Denver, Colorado, her family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she completed high school. She earned a bachelor's degree from Oakland University, a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and a Masters in Nursing from Pace University. She was a Nurse Practitioner. Early in her career, she worked as a women's health care specialist, providing care to low-income and uninsured women at The Provincetown Women's Health Clinic on Cape Cod. After completing her formal training, she joined the Health Department of the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut, initially concentrating on the health and independence of the elderly, and later serving as the Infection Control and Surveillance Officer and the Director of Family Health. Her contributions to community health included coordinating healthcare screenings and vaccination programs. She assisted in starting clinics to assess the needs of the elderly, and made home visits to the chronically ill. Always kind and compassionate, she was a lifelong volunteer, most recently serving on the board of the Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry, and as a disaster relief nurse with the American Red Cross. She followed the Quaker tradition, and served as Clerk of the Croton Valley Meeting in New Castle, New York. She loved gardening, reading and animals. She is survived by her devoted husband Glen; brother Peter Dodge and his wife Julie Dodge of Ann Arbor, MI; brother Michael Dodge and his wife Jane Tuck Dodge of Raleigh, NC; niece Meredith Melinder and her husband Jeffrey Melinder of Swansea, IL; nephew W. Matthew Dodge and his wife Shalini Patel of Atlanta, GA; nephews Jonathan Dodge and William Dodge, of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law Flora Chamlin and her husband Richard Chamlin of Whately, MA, nephew Seth Josephs of Clinton, MA; nephew Gabriel Josephs and his wife Kati Josephs of Deerfield, MA; and a loving community of family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Horace Jackson Dodge MD and Jane Ross Dodge. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the Purchase Quaker Meeting House in Purchase, New York, in remembrance of her wonderful capacity for giving. In lieu of flowers, those who choose to honor her work in helping others may wish to consider a memorial donation to Doctors Without Borders or Heifer International.
