HORTON, JEAN L. - 88, of Lake City, passed away at her home on December 21st. She was born in 1926 to the late William and Mary Dodderer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ms. Horton graduated from North Dallas High School, Dallas, TX; attended Southern Methodist University night school and began working at Love Army Airfield as a supply clerk during World War II. Ms. Horton was a life - long member of Lake City United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught a Sunday school class until her death. She worked 30 years as the Office Manager of the Lafollette Office of the TN. Dept. of Employment Security. After her State retirement, she worked ten years for the Lake City Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, Lake City Friends of the Library, the Keen Club, the Red Hat Club, and an active participant in the senior citizens community swim class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo A. Horton and son, David K. Horton; sister, Gerladine Huey; brother, Jack Dodderer. Survivors: sons Jim Horton and wife Karen, Clinton, George Horton and wife Fannie Jane, Clinton; daughter, Judith Holden and husband Darrell, Gray; daughter-in-law, Shirley Horton, Clinton; sisters, Beverly Abercrombie, Corsicana, TX, Marie Mayes, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Jesse (Ashley) Horton, Jeremy (Mind) Horton, Julia (Chris) Hubbard, Jana(Mark) Long, James Horton, Josh (Cristen) Holden, Chrissa (Dustin) Pearson; 10 great grandchildren, Korey and Cooper Horton, Mason, Madelyn and Morgan Hubbard, Kenzie and Jayce Horton, Jaxton and Cariko Holden and Judd Pearson. Pallbearers Jesse Horton, Jeremy Horton, Josh Holden, James Horton, Chris Hubbard, Mark Long, and Dustin Pearson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Oak Ridge Methodist Hospital, especially Dr. Lawson, Dr. Sharma, and I.C.U. nurse, Gwen, for their kindness and compassion during mother's illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rocky Top United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 406, Rocky Top, TN 37769. Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hatmaker Funeral Home. Funeral service: 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City with Rev. Dave Henderson officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Oak Ridge for Ms. Horton's graveside service.
