Obituary of Janie-Sansing Smith


SMITH, Janie Sansing, 85, of Mont-gomery, AL, a native of Newton, MS, died Friday, April 1, 2005. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Mont-gomery, AL. on Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation in the church Friendship Room one hour prior to service. Dr. Karl Ste-gall and Rev. Joe Hastings will offi-ciate. Interment will follow at Old Wetumpka City Cemetery in We-tumpka. She was preceded in death by husband Dr. William La-mar Smith, April 1, 1991. Mrs. Smith is survived by her children Betsy Smith Watson and husband Tom of Montgomery; Sansing Smith McPherson and husband Terry of Hilton Head Island, SC; William La-mar Smith, Jr. and wife Carol of Phil-adelphia, PA; George Bernard Smith II of Birmingham. Her nine grandchildren are Henry Winston Pirtle, Jr., wife Tyra; Laurel Watson Floyd, husband Dan; Cynthia McPherson Frantz, husband Andy; Duncan Hamilton McPherson; Wil-liam Lamar Smith III, wife Jennifer; Bryce James Smith; Stephanie Anne Smith; Jonathan Daniel Smith; and Allison Marie Smith. She has six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings James Earl Sansing, George Marvin Sansing, Helen Sansing McCarty, and Ed-ward Pierce Sansing. Mrs. Smith volunteered over her lifetime in many areas including United Meth-odist Women, Mothers Circle, Tri Hi Y, and Girl Scouts. She was presi-dent or officer of numerous organiz-ations, including Cloverdale PTA, Keep Montgomery Beautiful, Inter-national Training in Communica-tions, Women's Auxiliary to the Montgomery County Medical Asso-ciation, Women's Auxiliary to the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, and Capital City Repub-lican Women. In 1999 she received a Seniors of Achievement Award from Montgomery Area Council on Aging. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Montgomery Building Fund.LEAK-MEMORY CHAPEL DIRECTING
