MORRIS, JAMES WILLIAM, 82, of Maitland, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Vitas Hospice in Winter Park. He was born on January 1, 1924, in San Francisco, CA, the son of James J. Morris and Hazel Hambly Morris. As a youth growing up in San Francisco, he was an enthusiastic builder of flying model airplanes, winning many prizes at the local and national levels. He joined the US Navy in 1942, and became a Naval Aviator. He flew many different aircraft, including the Dauntless, Corsair, Hellcat, and Skyraider. He served in the Navy for 29 years, and saw combat in the Pacific Theater during WWII, and in Korea during the Korean War. After the Korean War, while stationed in Corpus Christi, he met a young lady from Oklahoma, Geneva Fugate; they were married in 1954. The family soon grew with the addition of their two children, Deborah and Roberta. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1971, the family moved to Maitland. In 1972, he began working as the Purchasing Agent for Water Bonnet in Casselberry, and retired from this position in 1991. James attended St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, and was a member of the Maitland Civic Center. He assisted his wife Geneva with many of the charitable activities she was involved with through the Maitland Woman's Club. He had a lifelong interest in military history and aviation, and he enjoyed reading and social activities with his wife and friends. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Geneva Morris, and his sisters, Ruth Bell and Claire Dapelo. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Strub (Bernard) and Roberta Zukauskas (William), and many caring friends in the Central Florida area. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, from 4-8PM, at the Goldenrod Chapel of the Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2006, 9:30AM, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Glen Haven Memorial Park. He will be greatly missed.
