James-L. Casey, born in 1925, spouse of Eleanor O-Shea, son of Patrick and Beatrice, father of James, Kevin and Patricia, died on February 13, 2008 at 83 years old.
James L. Casey of Orangeburg and Pompano Beach, Florida passed away at home on February 13, 2008, at the age of 83. He was born in New York City to Patrick and Beatrice Casey. Mr. Casey, a member of the first graduating class of Rice High School, was a World War II veteran. He served in the US Army Air Force in the South Pacific. He graduated from the Fordham University School of Business, NYU Graduate School of Business, and Fordham Law School. After representing the Civil Service Employees' Association, Mr. Casey was appointed counsel for the New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs, where he served for 15 years. In 1975, Mr. Casey opened a law office in Pearl River and was appointed Deputy Town Attorney for Orangetown. He was a panel member of the American Arbitration Association and the New York State Mediation Board. He taught at the Xavier Labor School and St. Thomas Aquinas College. He was a member of the Rockland County Bar Association and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and a life member of the DeMeola Memorial Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. An active member of the city and state Republican Parties, he served as co-leader of the 15th Assembly District in Manhattan. After moving to Rockland in 1958, he joined the Blauvelt-Orangeburg Republican Club. Mr. Casey was a long-time parishioner at St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church in Blauvelt. He was a member of the St. Dominic's Council Knights of Columbus, where he served as advocate. For over 40 years, he was a member of the honor guard of the Joyce Kilmer General Assembly of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Casey is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Eleanor O'Shea. He is also survived by his beloved sons, James Colin and his wife Jane Anne, Kevin and and his wife Christine, and daughter, Patricia Johnson and her husband James, and his cherished grandchildren Corinne, Neil, Patrick, Sinead, and Meghan Casey and Kelly Nolan. Mr. Casey is also survived by his sister Patricia Harvey and his sister-in-law Mary Sheehy. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 10 am, at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet. Visiting hours will be Friday, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm, at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. Donations in his honor to United Hospice of Rockland would be greatly appreciated.
