GRIMES, Mayor James E.age 72 a lifelong residentof Elba, Alabama passedaway Friday evening, September 9, 2011 at ElbaGeneral Hospital. Funeralservices will be held atWestside Baptist Church onMonday, September 12,beginning at 2:00 PM withRev. Ken Harrison, Dr.James Newell, and Rev.Ken Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in EvergreenCemetery with Hayes Funeral Home directing. Visitation was held at HayesFuneral Home on Sundayevening, September 11,from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Mr. Grimes served the Cityof Elba as Mayor for thepast fifteen years. He was amember of the Elba HighSchool class of 1957 andwent on to earn his Bachelors degree from the University of Alabama. Jamesretired as an auditor withthe State of Alabama Department of Revenue. Hewill be remembered as aloving husband, and father, as well as a man of integrity dedicated to thecommunity he served. Mayor Grimes was preceded in death by his Parents Joseph Button Grimes,and Lena Bell Jones Grimes. Siblings preceding himin death were his brotherDerwood Grimes, sister Winford Alexander, brother Lamar ""Sonny"" Grimes, sisterClara Moore Twilley, alongwith his father-in-law UlmaMack, and a brother-in-lawReggie Mack.
