JAMES DALE TAYLOR - SOUTH BURLINGTON - James Dale Taylor, 91, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014. James also known as Jim, Dale, Dad, and Papa, was born on July 10, 1923, in Sulphur Rock, Ark., son of the late W. Claude and Callie (Langston) Taylor. He married Rita M. Merrill on Nov. 8, 1946, at the Greenville Army base in Greenville, S.C. They resided in South Burlington for 56 years and 27 wonderful winters at Woodlands Lutheran Campground in Montverde, Fla. Jim was a veteran of World War II and served 33 years in the Vermont Air National Guard from which he retired in 1979 as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was a member of the Community Lutheran Church in South Burlington and an Associate Member of Wood lands Lutheran Church in Montverde, Florida, Past Master of Webster Lodge #61 F&AM, Past District Deputy of District #5 of Vermont F&AM, a member of the Scottish Rite and Mt. Sinai Temple. Jim was a little league coach for many years while his sons were growing up. He is still remembered fondly by many of the players he coached. Jim was one of the original Green Mountain Boys with the VTANG and participated in many parades. He also enjoyed many years of working and golfing at Rocky Ridge Golf Course. Jim was always very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim and Rita attended many school activities, dance recitals, sporting events and will always be remembered as being there to give their love and support. Jim was the beloved husband of the late Rita Taylor for 62 years; loving father of two sons, Stephen and wife, Terry, of Shelburne, and Scott and wife, Laurie, of Essex; two daughters, Sally Newton of South Burlington and Sue Taylor of Irvine, Calif.; seven special grandchildren, Joshua and Adam Newton, Jennifer Taylor, Maegan Chevrefils and her husband, Andy, Brooke Taylor and her husband, Loren, Kelly Kanelos and her husband, Michael, and Mark Taylor and his wife, Traeci; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Jerry Lynn of California, Mrs. Addie Jeffries of Texas, and Mrs. Virginia O'Bryant of Florida. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service which will be held at the Community Lutheran Church, 1560 Williston Rd., in South Burlington, on Sunday July 27, 2014, at 3 p.m. Following the Celebration of Life, there will be a reception at the church. The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Lodge at Otter Creek and Shelburne Bay where Jim recently resided especially Rose Cleveland and Dennis Beauregard. Interment will be in St. Michael's/Merrill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, 261 Shelburne Rd., in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Taylor Memorial Fund at the Community Lutheran Church.
