J. David Williams, CFP, CLU, CH.F.C.Died peacefully on June 30, 2011 at home in Victoria. Born January 25, 1939, he was raised in Regina with summers spent at "the lake" near Carlyle. An athlete and sports enthusiast who loved baseball, golfing, Rider football and curling, he was inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame for winning the 1956 Canadian Boys Junior Curling Championship. Care and connection with people guided his financial planning career. After a B.Ed. and teaching he joined London Life in 1966 where he was Vice President of Sales in 1983, became a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, and founded the Study Group. He met Valerie, his wife of 50 years, in high school and quickly introduced her to his other love, jazz. They were blessed with three daughters: Laura, a musician and teacher in Calgary; Lynn, a former C.A. and owner of the Lifestyle Protector in Vancouver; and Suzanne (Paul Crossley), a child rights lawyer in Victoria; as well as grandson E.W.. Whether as founder, executive, member, volunteer, neighbour or family man, David brought people together for a common purpose and enhanced the world wherever he worked and lived. Also lovingly remembered by sister Sally Kasenberg (Jack), brother-in-law Rob Findlay (Ruth) and other family from Williams, Strathdee, Findlay and Phillippe clans, as well as dear friends. A funeral will be held in Victoria on July 25, 2011 at 1 pm at Cordova Bay United Church and a Celebration of Life (RSVP: rsvp@lifestyleprotector.ca) at 3 pm at the Royal Colwood Golf Club. Memorial donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, Victoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, or Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
