Obituary of Irene-May Raymond


EAST MONTPELIER - Irene May Raymond, 82, of Dodge Road, died Wednesday night April 8, 2009, at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin. Her family was at her bedside. Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Hanover, N.H., she was the daughter of Fred and Florence (Maple) LaPan. She was a graduate of Hanover, N.H. High School in 1944, and later graduated from business college in Boston and had been employed as a bookkeeper in the White River Junction and Montpelier areas. On June 10, 1950, she married Richard C. Raymond in White River Junction. They made their home in West Lebanon, Montpelier and for over 40 years at their present home in East Montpelier. He died Dec. 24, 2002. Being an accomplished golfer and bowler, she had won numerous trophies. She also enjoyed card playing, flower gardening and was an avid puzzle worker and member of the Montpelier Country Club. Survivors include her sons John Raymond of East Montpelier and James Raymond and his wife, Tracy of Barre Town and more distant relatives. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 10 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street. Burial will follow in the West Lebanon, N.H. Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society, PO Box 687, Montpelier VT 05601-0687.
