GOODWIN, Irene Dorothy (nee Bratt) August 5, 1915 - September 1, 2011 Irene passed away peacefully, her daughters by her bedside. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Barney (2004), their son John (2008), her brother Herbert Bratt and sister Evelyn Storey. Left with loving memories are her daughters, Glennys (Paul), Heather (Darrell) daughter-in-law, Ethel; nieces and nephews, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Irene was a life long resident of BC, born in Saanich. The family lived on Vancouver Island, often moving as her father climbed the ladder, culminating as the chef of the Malaspina Hotel. She graduated from the Royal Columbian Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. Soon after, she met Barney in Vancouver; they were married in 1939, and raised their family there. She attended UBC for her Public Health Diploma in 1958 and spent many years with the Vancouver Metropolitan Health dept. While with the Health dept her committee was instrumental in developing the Meals-on-Wheels program for the city. Art, music and cooking were inherited interests. She found joy as a pianist and choral member. She was an accomplished seamstress, a great quilter and china painter. In retirement Mom and Dad enjoyed golf and reconnected with friends each winter in Mesa, Arizona. Her last few years were spent at Fleetwood Place where she was assisted by a very caring staff. Our sincere appreciation goes to them, to Dr. Wadge and to ""Pastor Pete"" Kok. A Memorial Service will be held on a future date at Fleetwood Place. Mom requested that any donations to the BC Diabetes Society would be greatly appreciated.
