<!-- FH = HEARD, GINA -->JOHNSON, Dr. Imogene G., 90, formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., passed away peace-fully in St. Louis, Mo., August 18, 2011. Dr. Johnson, born in Tampa, March 2, 1921, graduated from Indiana University in 1941 and Howard University School of Medicine in 1949. Dr. Johnson completed residency training at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Buffalo, N.Y., in 1952. Dr. Johnson was the first African American physician to complete a residency program in pathology at Buffalo General Hospital, under Dr. Kornell Terplan. She then completed a two year fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., before returning to Buffalo and holding various staff positions as a pathologist at Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo Mercy Hospital, Erie County Medical Center and the former Buffalo Columbus Hospital. Dr. Johnson was an Associate Professor in Pathology at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine, and later had additional training at Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Institute. Dr. Johnson was active in the Buffalo area community organizations of the St Martin DePorres Club, the Catholic Family Movement, and the Buffalo Association of Pathologists. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Dr. Johnson is survived by her children, Dr. James C. Dunn II, Gina (Dunn) Heard, Gregory Dunn and Guy Dunn; her former husband, Dr. James C. Dunn; grandchildren, Kaleigh and Maxwell Dunn, Kasondra and DJ Heard, Bailey and Ryan Dunn, and Elise and Lucas Dunn; niece, Marcia (Guess) and Tom Fuagate; and was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth L. Johnson and Dr. George Wesley Patrick Johnson; and her sisters, Mercedes Guess and Yvonne Johnson. Memorial services will take place at 1 p.m. August 27, 2011, at Holy Angels Parrish Church, Indianapolis, Ind., with internment at the Crown Hill Cemetery. The family is declining flowers and accepting contributions to the Knight's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center for the Memory and Aging Project Satellite, 4488 Forrest Park Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108.
