Mrs. Ida Mae Way Holmes, 91, of Midway departed this life on Sunday morning, Sept. 9, 2012, at Woodland Healthcare Center in Liberty County.She was well-known in the community for her words of wisdom, concern for others and her sternness in the up-bringing of her children and grandchildren.Prior to illness, she was a dedicated member of Wilderness Baptist Church in Midway. She was predeceased by her husband George Holmes, daughter Shirely Golden, brother James Way and son Sylvester Holmes, Sr.Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine (Corth Sr.) Nelson of Hinesville and Erma Holmes Sanders of Midway; three sons, William (Gloria) Holmes of Lakeland, Fla., Cal (Yvonne) Holmes of Polk-St. Lucci, Fla., and Calvin Holmes of Midway; three sisters, Nancy Bady and Helen Scott of Midway and Viola Henry of Callahan, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Hilda Barrett Holmes of Midway; 22 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 13 great- great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.Other family members include Thomas Golden Sr. and James Nathaniel Sanders of Midway.Her wake will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the St. James Community Center, 1140 Holmestown Road, Midway. Her body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Wilderness Baptist Church Cemetery.Dorchester Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
