Obituary of Ian Macdonald

Our Dad, Ian Lloyd Taylor MacDonald was born in Bathurst New Brunswick the only son of Gilchrist and Winifred (nee Taylor) MacDonald. Dad was proud his ancestors first arrived in the new world in 1834 and he was always a proud Canadian.Dad and Mom married in Hamilton Ontario in 1956 then moved west eventually settling in Nanaimo. Dad always owned his own businesses and never reported to anyone except Mom. He played bridge and worked on his stock market portfolio until his last weeks. He more than beat the average recovery from the 2008 crash and was a keen observer of current events until the last few days.Dad had a debilitating stroke in 1995, which robbed him of many things but not his will to succeed. Dad never complained about his stroke or what could have been done for him. He learned to trade and track his investments with his left hand. Our parents were a loving team as they coped with advancing age and health issues. It was wonderful to witness. Our Dad died peacefully on the 1st of November 2014 at home on his own terms. He is survived by his devoted wife Morna, and sisters Jean, Margaret and Greta. He will be greatly missed by his children Ian (Nancy), Rob (Cindy), Linda (Rick), Duncan (Bilge), Heather (Gord), 10 grand children and 3 great grand children. A celebration of life memorial will be held at a later date.
