Obituary of Hilda-S. Bryant

BROOKLIN - Hilda S. Bryant, 77, died April 4, 2010, at her home. She was born April 28, 1932, in Brooklin, daughter of Henry and Bessie (Allen) Smith. Hilda graduated from Brooklin High School in 1950. Hilda always loved her home and enjoyed building her house "Beyond Reach" on the shore. She surrounded it with gorgeous gardens which she designed and planted herself. Knitting sweaters, socks and scarves to give away was a passion of hers. Lunching with her Brooklin classmates during the summer was a joy to her. She was always helping others in any way she could. She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, John "Cal" Bryant; daughter, Diane Davis of Deer Isle; brothers, Russell and wife, Madeline, of Brooklin and Gordon and wife, Norma, of Sarasota, Fla.; niece, Melba Smith of South Dennis, Mass.; nephew, Nelson Smith of Brooklin; her cat, Otis; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Cecil, Robert, Arthur, Norton, Roger and Eugene Smith. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, at Naskeag Cemetery, Brooklin. The family suggests that those who desire may make contributions in Hilda's memory to Southwest Harbor Animal Welfare Inc., P.O. Box 434, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
