SAULNIER (Sweeney), Hilda Geraldine - 78, passed away suddenly at her home on April 14, 2004. Known to most around the Markland, Cape Forchu area as "Aunt Hil" or "Lah" for her generous nature when it came time for gift giving to all of her friends and relatives. Hilda was born on Cape Forchu on April 1, 1926, to the late George and Winnifred (Doane) Sweeney. Hilda was a granddaughter to Edward Sweeney and Martha (O'Connor) Sweeney and to Joshua Doane and Mary Elizabeth (Beveridge) Doane, all of Cape Forchu. Hilda will be sadly missed for her Irish-hearted spirit, great cups of tea, her pretty blue eyes and her enormous grin, yet mostly for her welcome mat, which was never shaken or tossed aside. Her door was always open to all who wanted in. Hilda enjoyed painting, playing the guitar, violin and banjo, storytelling about modern day events, sailing ships, rum running, as well as other old time events that really took one back in time. Hilda is survived by her son, Howard Cooper and his wife Mary; grandson Brandon Jeremiah "B.J.", all of Shreveport, La., U.S.A.; sisters, Edith Rose Nielly, Vancouver, B.C; June (Mickey) Shaver, Carlton Place, Ont.; lots of nieces and nephews. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, George Leslie Saulnier Sr.; stepsons, Bob Saulnier and George Saulnier Jr.; brothers, Jerrold, Ray, Kenneth, Douglas and Owen Sweeney; sisters, Mildred MacNeil, Coleen Hamilton, Winnifred Sweeney and Gladys Kearns. Hilda is resting in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 17, and where service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18, Rev. Ron Clarke officiating.
